If you are unhappy with the appearance of your smile, it may be time to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation with Dr. Julie Glud at our Lombard, IL dental office. In addition to porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, Invisalign treatments, dental implants, and other restorations, we proudly offer dental bonding.
Dental bonding provides an affordable and fast treatment that can address minor blemishes in your smile. Even small changes under the skilled and artful hand of Dr. Glud can lead to drastic results. Dental bonding is completely reversible and non-invasive.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding consists of a tooth-colored resin that can be color-matched to your natural teeth. The bonding agent is applied to a damaged or misshapen tooth and then hardened using a special light. Dental bonding is an ideal cosmetic treatment for patients who have minor gaps, chips, or other cosmetic problems.
The cosmetic treatment may not be ideal for addressing significant cosmetic problems such as large gaps. Large gaps can be corrected using Invisalign aligners at our office. If the outer structure of your tooth is severely damaged, you may be a better candidate for a dental crown.
What can Dental Bonding Address?
Dental bonding can address many cosmetic issues. During your visit to our Lombard office, Dr. Glud may use dental bonding to:
- Repair a chipped tooth
- Repair tooth decay
- Cover discolored portions of your tooth
- Reduce the appearance of gapped teeth
- Leave your smile looking younger
- Replace metal fillings
- Address misshapen teeth
- Protect an exposed tooth root
- To lengthen one or more teeth
How Is The Material Applied?
During your procedure, Dr. Glud will clean the surface of your tooth. An etching chemical will be applied to ensure that the bonding has a strong attachment to the surface of your tooth. Then, Dr. Glud will artfully apply the tooth-colored resin to the treatment area. Once the material has been shaped to meet your cosmetic needs, a special light will be used to harden the material. Finally, Dr. Glud will ensure that the bonding material does not interfere with your bite. She can make small adjustments as needed. The entire procedure generally takes well under an hour to complete and there is no recovery time needed.
What are the Benefits of Dental Bonding Over Alternative Treatments?
Dental bonding and porcelain veneers offer similar cosmetic benefits. Both treatments can cover blemishes on the front-facing portion of your anterior teeth. Veneers generally last far longer and come with a greater up-front cost. Veneers require the removal of a small amount of enamel, which some patients may prefer to avoid.
During your consultation with Dr. Glud, you will be informed about the benefits of both cosmetic treatments. If your teeth are in good shape but are misaligned, you may be a better candidate for Invisalign clear aligners.
